☞ Lake Louise is a hamlet within Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada.

Named after Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll, it lies in Alberta's Rockies on the Bow River, 3 km (1.9 mi) northeast of the lake that shares its name.

Initially settled in 1884 as an outpost for the Canadian Pacific Railway, Lake Louise sits at an elevation of 1,600 m (5,200 ft), making it Canada's highest community.

The nearby lake, framed by mountains, is one of the most famous mountain vistas in the world.

 

☞ Entryway to Lake Louise

Prior to the arrival of Europeans, Indigenous peoples lived in the foothills and forests of the Rocky Mountains – including what is today Lake Louise – where they hunted bison and other big game animals.

In the language of the Nakoda people, Lake Louise is called Ho-run-num-nay, meaning "lake of the little fishes".

 

During the 1870s, the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) started.

The railway was planned to run through Bow Valley. A Nakoda guide took CPR workman Tom Wilson to the site in 1882, and Wilson named it Emerald Lake.

The hamlet was later called Holt City, and then Laggan, before being renamed Lake Louise.

A ca. 1890 CPR station was replaced in 1910 but continued to be used by the railway company for other purposes until it was donated in 1976 to Heritage Park Historical Village in Calgary.

The depot was moved to the park and restored to the era when the Lake Louise village was called Laggan.

The 1910 station was declared a heritage railway station by the federal government in 1991, and has been preserved and today operates as a restaurant.

 

Lake Louise was added to Rocky Mountains Park in 1892, and has since become a tourist destination made accessible by its location off the Trans-Canada Highway.

 

☞ Geography

The hamlet is in Division No. 15, one of 19 census divisions of Alberta and the federal riding of Banff—Airdrie. It is beside the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1), 180 km (110 mi) west of Calgary.

The background of Lake Louise is filled with views of several snow-capped mountains, including Mount Temple, Mount Whyte, and Mount Niblock.

 

☞ Climate

Lake Louise experiences a subarctic climate (Köppen climate classification Dfc).

Annual snowfall averages 279.1 cm (109.9 in) and although winter temperatures can fall below −50 °C (−58 °F) in January and February the averages are −18.4 °C (−1.1 °F) and −17.6 °C (0.3 °F) respectively.

Summers consist of frosty mornings and crisp, cool days. Snow can occur in any month of the year.

Since lower elevations on said latitude have humid continental climates instead, it may also be described as a subalpine climate. Because of its high diurnal air temperature variation and high altitude, the frost-free period averages only 14 days.

☞ 레이크 루이스(Lake Louise)는 캐나다 앨버타 주 밴프 국립공원 내에 있는 작은 마을입니다.

아가일 공작부인 루이스 공주의 이름을 딴 이 호수는 이름을 공유하는 호수에서 북동쪽으로 3km(1.9마일) 떨어진 보 강(Bow River)의 앨버타 로키산맥에 위치하고 있습니다.

1884년에 캐나다 태평양 철도의 전초기지로 처음 정착된 레이크 루이스는 해발 1,600m(5,200피트) 높이에 자리해 캐나다에서 가장 높은 지역입니다.

산으로 둘러싸인 인근 호수는 세계에서 가장 유명한 산 풍경 중 하나입니다.

 

☞ 레이크루이스 진입로

유럽인들이 도착하기 전에 원주민들은 오늘날의 레이크 루이스를 포함하여 로키 산맥의 산기슭과 숲에 살았으며 그곳에서 들소와 기타 대형 동물을 사냥했습니다.

나코다(Nakoda) 사람들의 언어로 레이크 루이스(Lake Louise)는 "작은 물고기들의 호수"라는 뜻의 호룬눔나이(Ho-run-num-nay)라고 불립니다.

1870년대에 캐나다 태평양 철도(CPR) 건설이 시작되었습니다.

철도는 Bow Valley를 통과하도록 계획되었습니다. 나코다 가이드는 1882년 CPR 작업자 톰 윌슨(Tom Wilson)을 현장으로 데려갔고 윌슨은 이곳을 에메랄드 호수(Emerald Lake)라고 명명했습니다.

이 작은 마을은 앨버타의 19개 인구 조사 부서 중 하나이자 밴프 연방 정부의 에어드리(Airdrie) 구역인 15구역에 속합니다. 캘거리에서 서쪽으로 180km 떨어진 캐나다 횡단 고속도로(1번 고속도로) 옆에 있습니다.

레이크 루이스의 배경에는 템플 산(Mount Temple), 화이트 산(Mount Whyte), 니블록 산(Mount Niblock) 등 눈 덮인 여러 산의 풍경이 가득합니다.

人生事(인생사) 先後(선후) 緩急(완급) 輕重(경중)이 있습니다.

우리네 人生(인생)은 아무도 대신 살아 주거나 누구도 대신 아파 주거나 죽어 줄 수가 없는 것입니다.

어디든지 갈 수 있을 때 가지 않으면 가고 싶을 때 갈 수가 없고 무엇이든지 할 수 있을 때 하지 않으면 하고 싶을 때 할 수가 없는 것입니다.

奇跡(기적)은 아무에게나 어디서나 함부로 일어나지 않습니다.

 

우리가 어릴 때는 꿈과 희망을 먹고 자랐지만 성인이 되면 計劃(계획)과 實踐(실천) 만이 존재할 뿐입니다.

마음 가는 대로 잘 생각하고 判斷(판단)해서 몸 가는 대로 行動(행동) 하고 實踐(실천)하며 하고 싶은 대로 하고 살면 될 것입니다.

다만, 嚴重(엄중)한 現實(현실)앞에 우선순위를 어디에 어떻게 둘 것인가에 愼重(신중)을 기해서 責任(책임)과 義務(의무)를 다해야 할 것입니다.

人生事(인생사) 刹那(찰나)와 彈指(탄지)에 지나지 않습니다.

지금 이 순간, 最善(최선)입니까?

 

인생의 眞理(진리)는 오직 살아 있어야 되는 것입니다.

그러기 위해서는 오로지 건강하세요.
