King Charles' Royal Residence Is About to Go Through Some Major Changes

There's been some speculation about where King Charles (still not used to writing that) will live now that he's Britain's reigning monarch following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II—and some royal reporters previously claimed he'd opt to stay at his current residence Clarence House instead of moving to Buckingham Palace.

But nope. Looks like Charles will take up residence at the Palace, with a source (who is friends with Charles) previously telling the Daily Mail, "Despite what everybody thinks about him not wanting to live there, he will certainly have accommodation there – but it will be a much more modest flat-above-the-shop situation akin to that of the Prime Minister at Downing Street."

The source added, "Both the Prince and the Duchess of Cornwall are very practical and see that the reigning Monarch must live at Buckingham Palace, otherwise it would become like Hampton Court' – a visitor attraction rather than a working royal palace."

Apparently, the monarch's truly massive living quarters (which includes 52 royal/guest rooms and 188 staff rooms) will be downsized. Meanwhile, Clarence House (Charles and Camilla's previous home) will likely be saved for use by Prince George, Princess Charlotte or Prince Louis since none of the older royals are thrilled by the idea of moving there. As a source put it, "No one is terribly fond of Clarence House because it's still seen very much as the Queen Mother's place."

It's unclear when Charles' move to Buckingham Palace will take place, but considering he became King the moment Her Majesty passed, chances are he'll take up residence there quickly.
