Guan Yu Statue, China
Built to honour Chinese military leader Guan Yu, this 58-metre (190-foot) monument in Jingzhou is one of the world’s largest bronze statues and cost over 170 million yuan (US$26 million).
However, the sculpture drew the ire of both locals and the Chinese government. In 2020, it was decided to relocate the statue to a nearby tourist precinct—a move that will cost an additional 155 million yuan (US$24 million).
