African elephant (Loxodonta africana)
Among the larger land animals we find the African elephant, which differs from its Indian cousin because the males are much larger (the females of the two species instead have approximately the same size). Male African elephants weigh an average of 6 tons, but specimens have been found that even reached 10 tons! Unfortunately, this beautiful animal is at risk of extinction due to the destruction of its habitat and due to poaching for meat and ivory of its tusks.
